Wembley recruitment drive at Chalkhill Community Centre
A recruitment day run by AP Security in association with Well London expects to create 100 part time roles as Wembley Stadium stewards for Chalkhill locals.
Chalkhill Community Centre was a hive of activity as 50 budding stewards arrived for the morning presentation. A further three presentations were planned throughout the day and were being led by AP Security’s Senior Operations Manager, Tommy Michalis and Head of HR, Cheree Roy.
Cheree explained that if they were accepted for the role they would be entered on to an NVQ in Spectator Safety before being sent to Wembley Stadium for their site-specific training.
Tommy’s run down of the day-to-day realities of the job was exciting and inspiring. The roles available ran from being a steward outside the stadium and searching entrants through to being in the stands with a lucky few actually being pitch side.
He told us his story of how 28 years ago, he was sitting in a presentation just like this one and has since been to four World Cups, four European Championships and two Olympics and that ‘if you work hard in this job, it’ll take you round the world’.
The role wasn’t just limited to Wembley Stadium either. AP Security’s contracts take them to places as diverse as Ascot, Brixton Academy, Alexandra Palace, The Isle of White Festival, Glastonbury and The Royal Albert Hall.
The role certainly interested local resident Mahmoud, 19, who described the session as ‘amazing, they seem nice and you know, working in Wembley would be wicked!’
Well London Local Co-ordinator Michael Stewart described it as ‘a fantastic opportunity’.
The first day of the role for trainees recruited from this day is the Carling Cup Final to be contested between London rivals Chelsea and Tottenham on 1st March.
