Pop Up Parks kick start free healthy summer for Unwin and Friary

RESIDENTS on the Unwin and Friary Estate are set to enjoy a summer of free events that encourage healthy eating and wellbeing.
Pop up parks for the under-fives and a six-week free cookery course are just some of the initiatives on offer from Well London, a Big Lottery-funded programme, to help residents kick start a healthier way of life.

From June to September disused areas will be transformed into fun, creative spaces for outdoor play where children can build dens and living walls (vertical gardens) in pop up parks.

A six-week cookery course started on 13th June and will share top tips on how to get the most out of meals on a limited budget and how to liven up dinner time. Free recipe books will be given to participants that complete all six weeks of the course.

Rupal Shah, spokesperson for Well London, said she was delighted that these opportunities were on offer to local people.

She said:  “The summer is the perfect opportunity to embrace some new healthy habits whilst having fun and getting to know other people within our community.

The Well London programme is run in partnership with a number of other organisations, including The London Borough of Southwark and Groundwork London, a leading environmental charity working with communities, local authorities and voluntary sector organisations to improve people’s lives and engender civic pride.

Southwark is one of 10 boroughs across the capital that is receiving support from Well London.

For more information on the above activities or how to get involved please contact Rupal Shah, Well London Co-ordinator on 07903 752826.
